Hong Kong 3.0: Best Roasted Goose and Pigeon

The thought of boyfriend going to bring me to HK for food and shopping again soon makes me get all excited and all of sudden, missing the gorgeous food over there. As many of you may know, despite the fear of weight-gain (and I gained already), I can never miss having nice food particularly when I'm traveling around.

Other than hawker food, we also hunt for those restaurants with different awards in the region because of the quality assurance. This time round hong kong food hunt, I would like to introduce a superb and award winning restaurant in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong. Sheung Wan has always been the high end area of hong kong and hence we had really high expectations towards the restaurant there - Yung Kee Restaurant 墉记。

In term of direction, I sucks in that. I do not exactly know how to study the map. And hence I misled the boyfriend for almost an hour WALKING! The fact was I missed reading the map by a station distance and hence so much of walking.

But it was totally worth the walk. I was stumbled across the award this restaurant won at the entrance while waiting to be seated. It was a 3-storey 5 class restaurants and we were seated at the highest floor. And we were the only Asians in that freaking floor, surrounded by 100% caucasians or foreigners from other continents except Asia. Both of us were like o.0, wow?!

Flipping through the menu were different dishes with their own award-winning title throughout the years and recommendations from the chef. And if I was not mistaken, the owner of this restaurant started his career selling hawker food and became famous of his roasted pigeon/goose which he then made big earnings from his fame and opened this restaurant. Sound a bit ridiculous but seems to be true.

Since there was the 2 of us only, we decided to go for 3 dishes - the roasted goose, roasted pigeon with its specialty sauce and beef brisket noodles. And thinking that we can still go for supper if it was not enough. But it turned out that the portion was HUGE which in the end we did not finish the beef brisket noodle. :S Feeling sorry to have it wasted.

The roasted pigeons

The roasted pigeon was the last to serve among these 3 dishes. It looks like roasted chicken to us anyway but no, it was pigeon. The texture of the meat was totally different from chickens. Not to say juicy but it was very tender and went perfect with the special sauce prepared by the chef himself. Due to the fact that roasted goose served before this, this dish seems to be overshadowed by roasted goose in terms of taste.

The beef brisket noodle

Of which the boyfriend asked me why order this when we were in a restaurant. =___= Thinking back, I do not know as well. Maybe I just love beef as much as he loves pork. But ordering this was not a mistake anyway, it was super nice!! The waiter even cut the noodle for me seeing that it's quite difficult for us to split it into two bowls.

roasted goose

This is our most favorite of all in hong kong! It was the best best best food so far I have tasted in hong kong. Totally worth the price! It's not too fat nor too lean, but just nice. The sauce was kind of sweet with a little bit of sourness in it. All in all, this dish was perfect.

And our 3-dishes dining comes to a total of almost HKD500 including service tax and tidbits. What I must emphasize here is yung kee restaurant charges extraordinary high in service tax and the food are slightly pricey since it is an award winning restaurant. But like what I said, it was worth it.

Time flies.

Valentine 2011

This is no longer our first valentine, but the second. What's different from the previous year was that we will not be celebrating it together as we are a sea apart. Having a second thought, not only the distance is different, but the heart as well - Hearts grow fonder for each other. :)

In a blink of eyes, the boyfriend and I have been together for a year and counting. In this one year, he has been my best listener, best talk crap partner, best person to ever show my ugliest side, best person to laugh together with, best partner in-crime to eat kolo mee at 12 midnight, best companion for a late night movie, best person to travel together with and etc etc.

Unlike the fairy tales, our love story is very simple but extraordinary. I bumped into him in Shell, Miri, where I was placed for 8 months industrial training. I must say he did not catch my eye right away, I wont deny this. But when he did, I swear I couldn't look away. Like all other couples did, we went out for dates, to the bar, to lunch, to the beach, to movie together before we are official and I felt completely comfortable being with him.

You know you are comfortable with your date, when even if both of you are completely silent in the car, you still feel comfortable with it, no awkward moment. We do not really share common interest other than traveling. He loves car, I love fashion. He loves action/horror movie, I love animation/comedy/romance. He is not into sweet stuff, while I have a sweet tooth. But because of these difference, we have more to talk about, to share and to argue over it.

My boyfriend is not a romantic kind of guy as well. He does not know how to act romantic in fact. And he can be very stubborn.

He is quite insensible towards my temper too. There was once I was a little upset over him for the whole day but he did not know about it at all and when I told him I was upset, he threw back "Oh is it?" at me, which just made me speechless and felt silly for being upset at him the whole day when he did not know about that at all.

But I can't expect my boyfriend to be perfect because I myself is not a flawless person as well. A beautiful relationship is where I can see his perfection out of imperfections, and be able to compromise each other characteristics and interests.

In 2011, we had been through a lot which is impossible for me to summary in just an entry. The bf has brought me into his kind of world while I bring him into my kind of lifestyle. Because of him, I start to love eating to the max. Because of me, he starts to love photographing to bits. Because of him, I travel to numerous places in just a year. Because of me, he is being forced to have his hair cut short. I can go on and on with this the whole day and never get tired of it.

But one of the breakthrough that I did in 2011 due to this relationship would be composing a song for him out of nothing. I know nothing about music, nothing about notes, and not good in writing lyrics. With the help from a friend, I managed to come out with a 3.30minutes song for him as an anniversary gift. I saw him teared while listening to the song and I swear that's the best moment ever, because I know the sincerity and hard work paid!

Despite his not romantic characteristic, he would always bring me on for a trip. To island hopping and snorkeling, to experience cultures, to enjoy varsity of food from different countries. 2 pairs of eyes, 2 hearts but we are always seeing the same sky.

"If I don't bring you I can never describe how wonderful a place or how nice the food is, so better you come and experience it together with me."

So there we went, places after places, cultures after cultures. Traveling together has always been something we really enjoy together the most.

This year due to clashing schedule and very tight timetable, we are unable to celebrate our 2nd Valentine's day together. He told me it is ok, because we can still celebrate it next year, next next year, and every year since we will be growing old together. Albeit, we had our early Valentine Japanese lunch in Brunei and he said he will bring me somewhere else for nicer food when we meet in March, to create our own Valentine.

And so to the boyfriend,

There will never be a quote,
that explains how much you mean to me.
Never a song,
that truly hits the spot.
Not enough words,
to tell you how I feel.
And not enough time, never enough time,
to show you how long I want to be with you.

Happy Valentine's Day.

2 years back, I was most probably the most bad temper person you could ever meet in your life. I get angry easily and just cursed back whatever that could made me feel better without taking into account other people's feelings. I admit I was a jerk back then.

But now, I'm kind of proud of myself that I can take jokes and whatever critics easy, as long as it does not cross my limit. However, people tend to take this for granted that they feel their jokes particularly something very personal are really funny and they can go on and on the whole day and even make fun of me publicly in front of people whom I do not know and I still have to let it go with a big smile on my face. Inside my head I was like keep telling myself to keep COOL and chill.

My question is how many time can you actually chill over a certain matter particularly those related to your family or body or your hair or just your physical look/appearance? Fuck there is a limit right? There are friends whom whenever they see me, we do not have a topic and in order to not having awkward moments, he/she starts making fun of my hair or eyes (because I have super small eyes equally as a thin line) or my shirts or my dress. All I can do is to keep on grinning like an idiot and he/she continues with his jokes and dude, sometime I rather you just shut your mouth and talk no shits.

One particular remark that I always get would be:

"wah wan sin your eyes so sibeh small."

"I know.. thanks. look like korean right?"

"hahahaha so don't want face. so damn small. small eyes yerrr no eyes one."

"No eyes one hahahaha eh you see her eyes so small so funny no eyes one!!!"

".. :) with poker face"

"hahahaha how you see things de eh open bigger show me your eyes where are your eyes?"

":) ahahaha (in my head i would have kill you 10 times)"

Like THE FUCK? And this conversation repeats itself until we bid goodbye or it repeats again the next time we meet. For one or two times, I can really accept but if it happens repetitively over times, I get fed up, tired of this kind of jokes and eventually feel that he/she has no respect towards me or even my parents at all. This pair of eyes are given by my parents, by God. What right you have to comment over it.

In life all we need is constructive comment but not critics that will bring one's self-esteem down and down. If that is the way of you to communicate with your friends, clearly this type of communication for me is wrong and disrespectful. What your point of bringing someone down? To make yourself look or sound greater?

I'm not finger-pointing at anyone. Just want to have a chance to vent out my opinions. I might be wrong but this is what I think at least. I just hope that the next time you or whoever meet me, stop making fun of my eyes unless you are my bf or from my family.

Because obviously I'm bored and fed up of it.

I went back home on the 10th this year to prepare for CNY way bit earlier compared to the others. But everything ended up last minute. I was so confident on my wardrobe that whenever people asked me about my cny clothes, I always answer them I have more than enough, that I can wear till chap goh mei (15th day of cny), since I have been shopping non stop throughout the year, buying lots of clothes from whenever I went traveling.

I have totally forgotten that I wore some of my new clothes in Kuching, for certain occasions and etc, which left me all the super casual wears like disney t-shirt?! or those basics tee like fcuk, banana republic or the plain white or plain black tee?!?!! The F. Worst part was cny was on Monday and I realized such thing on the Friday before it itself.

It was too late for me to go to the shopping malls so last minute and needless to say, to hunt for nice clothes. So, my only available option at that moment was online shopping, which at the same time, I was worried if the postage can arrive on time or not as well.  -_____-

Not like I have any other way to get clothes, so I just risk whatever shit I got with me. And kept pestering the owner of the boutique to send the parcel immediately so that I can receive it the next day. She was really efficient.

Presenting to you the last minute purchase and my wear on the first day:

It turned out fine. My mum likes it, my bf loves it and I adore the cuttings of the dress itself. Seems like last minute shopping was not that bad of an idea anyway. So on the first day of cny, the parents held an open house at home since it had been the tradition for years. And even though my friends were not as much as compared to my parents', I always turn out to be the busiest (I think). Serving drinks, doing the washings, refilling drinks and etc etc. The fact that my sister is not in Msia and my brother busy with his own visiting plans, I have to do the work of 3.

Even so, I was very happy on that day itself. I got to gather with my friends, family, relatives and it was my sweetheart first cny! :D

On the second day of cny, I decided to wear my purchase from HK.

On the third day:

The forth:

I was lazy to take picture of myself after that. I was busy with pokerssss and more pokersss, gathering and more gatheringssss, food and more fooddd, rounder and even rounderrrr!! F!!

Also, I had some mild irritation on the face on the 2nd day of cny onwards due to I don know why, most probably the foundation that I applied on my face did not suit me at all. Proven that I'm really NOT suitable for make up or anything. -___- Seriously that irritation on the face irked me like hell and thank God it is completely healed now. I was scare shit of breakouts.

Anyway, CNY this year had been pretty good for me. The bf came back earlier as well to accompany me because initially my plan was to go back on the 1st of feb, but who knows I changed my ticket to even later. ;P

This is late but happy cny everyone!
